The Sony A7IV as a Hybrid Wedding Photography and Videography Camera
I have been using Sony Cameras every since I began photographing Weddings in 2011
I started out with the Sony A900 and A99 A mount full frame DSLR cameras then progressed to the e-mount A7III a few years ago.
I currently use 2 A7III’s for my wedding photography and videography and last year I purchased a Sony A7IV and have been using it for a full wedding season now.

In comparison to the Sony A7III, the Sony A7IV has 33 Megapixels as opposed to the 24.2 Megapixels, this is a useful upgrade when you need to crop in. I also found the image quality to be improved, when editing a wedding I can usually tell when an image has come from the A7IV as opposed to the A7III.
Update July 2024
One thing I have forgotten to mention is the larger buffer size in the A7IV, after shhoting a bust of images the controls are ready to function whereas the A7III would have a significant lag

In terms of auto focus I didn’t see that much of a difference in my photography work. The Sony A7III has eye-tracking, but the A7IV has real-time tracking so for video work this was a definite bonus.

The 10 bit colour that the Sony A7IV supports has also been useful for colour grading in post production and a real upgrade over the Sony A7III. The footage from the A7IV is excellent and on a par with the Sony A7SIII.
It also supports 4K @60Hz so my slow motion wedding confetti clips look awesome.

My favourite lens from my earlier A-mount Sony days was the Sony / Zeiss 135mm f1.8 the images this lens produces were really special and something I missed when moving to the E-mount.
At the time I had the LA-EA3 A to E mount adaptor and it worked well with Sony A-mount lenses which had a built in focusing motor but the Sony / Zeiss 135mm f1.8 was a screw drive lens and would not auto focus with this adapter.
So one of the reasons I bought the A7IV was that it supported the LA-EA5 adaptor and now I could use my favourite Sony / Zeiss 135mm f1.8 with full auto focus.
