My 2022 Wedding Year by Alchemy Photography
This year marked a milestone for Alchemy Photography, after 12 years we reached 500 weddings.
2022 had some fabulous weddings
I cannot believe how lucky I am to do this job – it’s a privilege to be able to capture some of the most meaningful moments for people!
So a massive THANK YOU to all of our couples who trusted us to capture their weddings in 2022
This year we not only photographed weddings but we also filmed a fair proportion of them as well, videography has enabled us to offer a viable affordable alternative to couples who would like video but don’t want the additional costs of a dedicated videography team.
We have visited lots of stunning new locations in 2022 and some of my favourite local ones too. Some of these include: The Barn at Pengelly, Avalen Farm, The Cornish Place and The Polurrian Hotel on the Lizard in addition to lots of church and marquee weddings with the most stunning backdrops.
Our year started in Boscastle in February Jon and Jane had been married for 10 years but I was only the 4th person they told that they were married!
They had a vow renewal service on the harbour in Boscastle and then we went back into the village and captured some images in the back streets full of olde world charm.
They planned to break the news to Family and Friends shortly after.
Next up in March was a wedding postponed from 2021, Lucy and Lewis booked a pre wedding shoot with us so we met them in 2021 on Godrevy beach, a really lovely couple who got married at The Green near Liskeard
Our next wedding was in April, Louise and Henry were married at St Minver Church followed by a Marquee reception at Trewornan Manor near Wadebridge. Trewornan was a favourite place for them to stay on holiday, they told me they had stayed in every room at the Manor
Also in April we went back to The Green for Sonya and Stuart’s wedding. We took a trip down to the lake and the cherry tree there was in full blossom and made for some stunning pictures
At the begining of May I did a small wedding at Truro registry office followed by a trip to Porthtowan for some beach pictures. Joanne and Shaun then went onto Perranporth for their reception
Next up in May was Katie and George’s wedding at St Estachius Church in Tavistock, George’s grandmother conducted the service, so I had no problem getting the photographs I wanted!, this was followed by a trip to St Elizabeth’s House in Plympton. This was another postponed wedding due to lockdown
Pencarrow House on Bodmin Moor is one of my favourite places to go for a day out, so to photograph a wedding there is just wonderful. Chris and Henrietta got married there in Mid May and the gardens were full of colour
A week later and we were in Perranporth at The Seiner’s Inn, a lovely venue right on the beach, Tracey and Ian originally booked me for 2020, they then had to postpone to 2021 and unfortunately I was already booked, however restrictions were still in place in May 2021 so they changed to May 2022 and I was now available
At the end of May I photographed Clare and Ade’s wedding at Tregenna Castle St Ives
Into June and we were in Launceston for the wedding of Victoria and James. Childhood sweethearts (Victoria’s family used to holiday on the farm owned by Jame’s family) they lost touch with each other, a chance meeting 18 years later led to their wedding at St Thomas’s Church a year later. Their reception was held in a barn on the farm run by Jame’s family
We had a trip to Bude Castle for our next wedding in June, Peter and Sarah went onto the breakwater for some pictures after the ceremony with their dog ruffles
Our next wedding was at a real castle, Pengersick Castle at Praa Sands, it has lots of character and beautiful gardens. Carly and Ryan got married in the gardens and then we took a trip down to the beach
The Headland Hotel in Newquay has always been one of my favourite venues in Newquay, fabulous views and the staff always do a really good job of organising everything. Debra and Robert had a smalll wedding followed by a trip to little fistral beach which is always a bit quieter than the main beach at Fistral
I then went to a brand new venue called The Cornish Place for Natalie and Jonathan’s wedding, unfortunately it rained non stop for the whole of th day which was a pity as it was a beautiful venue set in the countryside near Truro
Next up was Kristie and Matt’s wedding at The Harbour House Hotel in St Ives, after the speeches we went down to the beach with the bridal party and there were a number of Rainbows over Godrevy Lighthouse
Into July and we were at a very local venue for us at Cornish Tipis, Matthew and Anna had an intimate wedding in the woods followed by a trip to the lake and a boat trip
Next up was what I called an upside down wedding, John and Sara got all dressed up on the morning of the wedding and we went down to Lansallos beach their favourite, then we travelled back to Carnglaze Caverns for the ceremony
St Teath Church is in the next village along from where I live in Delabole and Fiona and Shane got married there is the middle of July on a very hot day, we went off to Widemouth Bay for some pictures after the ceremony
Lusty Glaze in Newquay has always been a favourite venue for me as long as I remember to carry down all my equipment at the start. Luan and Lucy had an early ceremony 11am and I will always remember this one because Luan’s ex husband gave her away!
In August we were back at The Green for Sophie and Michael’s Lord of the rings themed wedding
Next up we were at The Church of Storms at Winwalloe followed by The Pollurian Hotel in Mullion for the wedding of Jason and Elizabeth. It was one of the hottest days of the year and Jason was feeling the heat
We next did a lovely local wedding at St Tudy Church followed by the reception at the village hall. Kellianne and Jobe had a glorious day
Anne-Marie and Henry had a fabulous day planned, they got married at Ruanhighlanes church where Henry’s Father and Mother are wardens and then we went to Pendower beach where Henry proposed to Anne-Marie and finally to a Marquee in Ruanhighlanes complete with fabulous sunset
Our final wedding in August was at The Alverton Hotel in Truro, I hadn’t been to this venue for a number of years so it was good to go back and we had some gorgeous lighting on the day. Nicola and Ian had a wonderful day
September gave us some rather stormy weather for Hannah and Andy’s wedding at St Teath Church followed by a trip to Trebarwith Strand for some beach pictures and then the reception at Tintagel Brewery one of my haunts.
Our next wedding were a couple who live in Austria, Lucinda and Gerard had planned to have their wedding in 2020 but lockdown travel restrictions and quarantine meant they had to postpone it until this year. Lucinda grew up in Tintagel and her dream was to get married at St Materianas Church on the coastpath overlooking Tintagel Island. A trip to Trebarwith Strand for some beach pictures was followed by the reception at Boscastle Farm Shop
Our last wedding in September was at St Enodoc Church at Daymer Bay. Teresa and Andrew had a small wedding followed by the reception at St Enodoc Hotel
My first wedding in October was an unusual affair, Joy and Tim had a handfastening ceremony at Trebarwith Strand and then all the guests went surfing with them
Next up was another local wedding at Lanteglos Church Camelford, Nicole and Jonathan then went to Bowood Park Golf Club for their reception
We were even busier in October than in September, our next wedding was at Lanivet church for the wedding of Tamsyn and Philip
At the end of October I went to a new wedding venue just outside Bodmin callen Avalen Farm, the weather was not so good but we did manage to get outside
Into November (not many weddings left now if you are still reading this post!) and on the 1st we went to another new venue The barn at Pengelly, Marcus and Jessica got married on a bitterly cold day but the sun was shinng and we got a lovely sunset
On the 19th we did a wedding at St Ives Guildhall followed by the reception atThe Loft in St Ives, I can throughly recommend the food there. I’ve known Ollie’s family for a very long time. He married Leah and it was great to catch up with old friends, the Christmas lights were up in St Ives
I originally had just one wedding in December, then on the Tuesday before her wedding on the Friday, Julie contacted me to to say her wedding photographer and videographer has gone out of business and could I step in. Julie and Paul got married at The Camelot Castle Hotel in Tintagel, very close to where I live
My final wedding of the year was at Bude Castle and then The Falcon Hotel. It was a very emotional wedding Steph and Gary had recently lost a close family member
Well that’s it for 2022, I have some great weddings booked in for 2023 including a couple postponed from Lockdown.
I still have availability if you would like to get in touch
